Simple DIY Papaya Face Mask for Dark Spots
Do you know all of the endless benefits of papaya?
The Papaya is such a versatile fruit here in Costa Rica: not only is it absolutely delicious, but also PACKED with nutrients.
The Papaya is definitely a staple ingredient at our beachfront yoga retreat. We love to eat it just as much as we love to include it in our eco-spa treatments!
Papaya is an excellent source of vitamins C and A, potassium, magnesium, and fiber. Making it a powerful antioxidant with numerous health and wellness benefits.
Did you know you can even eat the papaya seeds?
The seeds found in the Papaya contain key digestive enzymes which are SO helpful when dealing with stomach problems. These enzymes aid in digestion and work wonders when consumed after a heavy meal.
The beauty industry is actually one of the biggest consumers of papaya though. This is because papaya has wonderful anti-aging properties which help brighten the skin, reduce sun spots, and other signs of aging. The papaya even contains anti-bacterial properties which make it a wonderful aid in healing wounds. No matter what state your skin is in, we would HIGHLY recommend adding papaya into your self-care skin routine.
This single ingredient is the KEY to keep your face looking fresh, youthful, and bright!
Here at Blue Osa, we have curated a few Simple DIY Papaya Facial Mask Recipes that will give your skin a fresh, new glow! But if you are looking for a quick 2 minute facial on the go, we recommend just slicing off the skin of the papaya and rubbing a thin layer all over your face before bed. That way your skin can absorb its rich nutrients all night. Leaving you with a bright, fresh, face upon waking up!
If you have time for a slightly more-involved facemask, we have two wonderful options that you MUST try for yourself!

How to Make a Homemade Papaya Facial Mask For Aging Skin
From The Eco-Spa Of Blue Osa, Costa Rica
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup mashed papaya
- 1 whipped egg white
- 1 tsp honey
Directions:
- Mix ingredients together in a large bowl. For additional cooling or if you have sensitive skin, add a tablespoon of plain yogurt to your mixture.
- Wash your skin before applying the facial mask mixture. Apply the mask all over the face.
- Leave the mask on your face for approximately 10 – 15 minutes, giving the papaya enzymes time to exfoliate your skin.
- Rinse off with warm water first, then with cooler water, patting dry when done.
Remember to always moisturize after your facial. Depending on the skin type, we love to use natural oils such as coconut or jojoba as facial moisturizers. Opt for coconut oil if you are prone to dry skin or are living in a dryer, cooler climate. For normal to oily skin, Jojoba oil is perfect because it mimics the natural oil created by the skin.
We hope you enjoyed this moment of rejuvenation and relaxation from the eco-spa at Blue Osa!
